SetonixSynth Marsupial Dual / Stereo VCF for Eurorack - Sound demo

video upload by SetonixSynth

"This demo contains four patches with the SetonixSynth Marsupial configured in four different ways: as parallel (stereo) low-pass, parallel band-pass, series (mono) low-pass and series band-pass.

To showcase the sound of the filter, there is minimal external processing. For the stereo patches the sound source is the Infrasonic Audio Warp Core, while for the mono patches the sound source is a simple sawtooth wave from our Rottnest analog VCO. The Marsupial is being modulated by a single Infinite Machinery ADSR, which is also modulating the gain level through a transparent VCA. No external fx or compression are applied."

Honeysmack LIVE Acid Techno at Music Room on 3.03 Day with TR-09, TB-03 and Volca Beats

video upload by Honeysmack

"This was a small intimate gig I did on 3.03 day at Music Room in Melbourne. Amazing beautiful small venue that is a bar with a record room and huge sound. DJs are at home here although live acts definitely not the norm here, but I am always up for bucking the trend. Being the holy day of 3.03, I wanted to do a live set that was totally ACID focused with a 303.

The additional technical challenge was to do this show with ultra minimal gear, no mixer, no power, no effects just the Roland TR-09 and TB-03 with the Korg Volca Beats, all daisy-chained together. The TR-09 was the master clock and audio passed from the Volca into the TB-03 then into the TR-09. All effects are on board, no additional processing or mixing or anything else! Just one small audio cable running into the PA. All boxes were running on battery power for even less cabling and ease of set-up. The entire space was less half a square metre!

The performance is totally improvised, unrehearsed without any additional processing or editing. No DJs or computers were harmed during this performance.

Big thanks to the Acid Safari, Bo, DJ Jnett and everyone at Music Room.

Moog Mother-32: Techno Jam Patterns/Sequences. No Talk Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Moog Mother-32 'Techno Jam' is a collection of 64 patterns suitable for different genres like Techno, Minimal, House, Progressive, Acid, Deep, Rave, Dub, Tribal, Hardcore, Industrial, Dark, Electro, etc.
The soundset contains a wide range of sequences: dense, with all steps active, or sparse, having many empty steps and giving space for other instruments. Some patterns are made in Natural Minor, they will work nicely for Deep or Melodic Techno, while some use other modes, like Phrygian and are associated with Acid 303-lines.

💾 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/m32-...

Each seq is thoroughly set with parameters such as Gate Length, Ratchet, Glide, and Accent. The length of the sequences varies from 9 to 32 steps, including "odd" lengths (e.g., 14, 18, and so on) for polyrhythmic/polymetric grooves.

By default, the sequences are in the C3 Minor scale. This range is best suited for bass lines. However, you may transpose them to octaves higher to create melodic lines. You can also adjust the root note in semitones using the onboard keyboard to fit any scale. Additionally, transposition during playback can be used to create progressions, as demonstrated in some examples in my video demo.

Moog Mother-32 doesn't have the import/export feature. The only way to share a melodic line is old good Patterns Sheets - a picture, where all parameters are put to the picture, and then, a pattern is recreated manually by following the settings on the sheets.
Thus, the soundset is presented in the form of a PDF file. You can see an example of a pattern in the video or on the product page, the picture is attached.

There are audio examples of all seqs inside the folder with the soundset. The timbre in the examples is kept simple to avoid disturbing the perception with excessive modulations. After you've programmed a pattern, you can then set the patch to any complexity level.

The soundset doesn't include Mother-32 patches/timbres/front-panel settings. Patterns only.
You may find Mother-32 patches on my website as separate products.

You can use the patterns as ready-to-go material for your tracks or jams. Alternatively, you can go further by taking them as a starting point. Decorate the sequences with the features offered by Mother-32: play with pattern length (end point), direction, rotation (shifts the starting point back and forward), swing amount and division, tempo division if you use an external clock, momentary actions like hold, accent, ratchet, and others, reset, and, of course, you can change patterns by muting/adding steps or changing notes. Thus, a single sequence can produce many "siblings" in real time.

JVSY Live Oi Kwan Barbers | Novation Performance

video upload by Novation

"JVSY performs their music at Oi Kwan Barbers, a Canton-style barber shop, with the Novation Summit, SL MkIII, Peak, Launchpad Pro Mk3 and a Eurorack system.

JVSY said the concept was 'to create a piece of music that is minimal but conveys our impression on the unique shooting location that is Oi Kwan Barbers. The location gave us both a nostalgic and familiar feeling, which inspired us emotionally in creating this live set.'

'Novation products were used extensively on both the production and live recording of the piece. The Summit was the primary keyboard synthesizer used for the live shooting, while the Novation SL MkIII was used primarily to clock and trigger other synthesizers such as the Peak and our Eurorack system. The flexibility of the Launchpad also allowed us to trigger samples we collected that are relevant to the shooting location and to make live changes to various audio effect settings we prepared in advance.' - JVSY

Minimal Jam: Chance Delay & Entropic Doom - random gates, melodic noise, analogue percussion

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"A minimal jam using 2 Chance Delay modules, triggered by a sequencer clock, with the Entropic Doom to create both percussive and melodic noise-based sounds. Also a simple dual-oscillator analogue bass line using 2 Vintage Transistor Core VCOs and the Transistor Ladder Filter. Turn on Subtitles/Captions for an explanation of what's going on.

The Chance Delay generates randomness with its 'Chance' control, which determines the probability of gates occurring. It also uses its Length control to divide the frequency of the incoming clock signal - this is done by forcing the gate lengths to exceed the interval between clock pulses, and not producing further gates until the current gate cycle has finished. It also has a gate-delay function, and all three of these features can be voltage-controlled.

The Entropic Doom is a noise generator with a built-in, voltage-controlled, low-pass filter. This VCF has 2, 3 and 4-pole modes, and is resonant, producing significant self-oscillation in 4-pole mode, whilst also tracking 1V/Oct. This means it can be used melodically, extending it's usefulness beyond just noise washes or percussion. Additionally, it includes an audio input to add other signals into the pre-filter feedback loop, and it can sync it's noise frequency to an external source. To top it off it also features a CMOS ring modulator and XOR VCA, both of which can be used with or without the rest of the module. This thing can go from subtle and pretty timbres to crushing, mangled, distorted chaos.

Worng Electronics MidSide+ is AMAZING!

video upload by Signal Sounds

"MidSide+ is an advancement of the LRMSMSLR MidSide stereo processor, offering all the functionality of the original as well as an advanced voltage-controlled through-zero width processor and a switchable HPF on the side signal. This gives you not only advanced control of the width of your stereo signals, but also the ability to create new stereo signals from mono using MS processing and then use CV to control the width of the resulting signal.

The addition of a VCA on the Mid return and a 4 Quadrant Multiplier on the Side gives you complete control of the width from Mono, through Stereo and on to Super-wide Stereo, as well as being able to reverse the stereo image and then go on to Super-wide Reverse Stereo. All processing is 100% analogue and responds at audio rate, allowing you to create thick stereo sideband signals when using an audio-rate modulation source like a VCO. The switchable HPF has minimal phase shift in the pass band and ensures mono compatibility in the low end by removing any out of phase low frequency material from your signal when engaged, letting you get as wild as you want in the stereo field.

Like all WORNG Electronics modules the interface is ergonomically designed and doesn't skimp on attenuvertors for modulation inputs.

Make Noise Strega Patches: Texture, Noise, Drone, Lead. Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"«Noise & Texture» is a collection of 50 patches for a semi-modular synthesizer, Make Noise Strega.
Although Strega is often seen as part of the Make Noise trio (0-Coast + 0-Ctrl + Strega), it remains an intriguing standalone synth. My goal was to explore its full potential independently, without connecting other Make Noise devices. Strega is a truly unique instrument, offering inspiration for crafting the unusual and experimental timbres.

💾 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/stre...

This collection includes lo-fi textures, drones, leads, noises, FXs, and rhythmical patches. They can take center part in a track or serve as a supporting element, creating an atmospheric background.

These presets are suitable for various genres of electronic music where experimental sound design plays a crucial role, including: Ambient, Techno, Minimal, Deep, Electronica, Drone, Industrial, Dubstep, Hardcore, Garage, Cinematic, and others.

Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.
To recreate these patches, you need up to 5 patch cords.

There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.

In most cases, I utilize the 1V/OCT input (indicated by a black cable in the images) to send note information to Strega. There are several popular methods to achieve this:
- Using a MIDI keyboard or controller with CV output, such as the Arturia Keystep or Beatstep.
- Employing the Make Noise 0-CTRL.
- Utilizing software like Ableton (or another DAW with similar capabilities) to send CV signals via an audio interface.

You have the flexibility to choose any of these methods and play notes manually with a keyboard or use their internal arpeggiators and sequencers. In some of my audio examples, I used the internal arpeggiator of the Keystep.

If you don't have any of these devices or prefer not to use them, you can still effectively utilize the patches. In this scenario, you'll be working with a single note or pitch, which you can set using the TONIC parameter.

Don’t forget to use Touch Plates for immediate modulations and expression.

How Anthony Marinelli Programmed the Lead Synth on Michael Jackson’s PYT

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"In this video I'll show you a simple technique that I use to breakdown a sound when I need to re-create it. The most important weapon you have for programming a sound is your listening skills. I always take a deep breath before getting started. Quieting my mind in this way usually helps me understand what I'm hearing better. This example is a very simple one oscillator patch so it's a great one for try out this technique. The flutey lead from Michael Jackson's P.Y.T. is a cool counter line that enters for the 1st time in the 2nd verse of the song. It really gives the second verse a lift, almost floating feeling over a very funky groove. The waveform is a triangle wave which has a minimal amount of harmonic content. That's one main reason why it can be up in the mix and not interfere with the lead vocal. I used a Minimoog to create the sound for the track, but you can make this sound accurately on almost any synth including plugins. A lot of the personality of the sound comes from the performance including the use of vibrato via the pitch wheel. Experiment with playing the vibrato in a similar way as Greg Phillinganes (the original performer). This will help you understand the level of nuance that is possible. He's the master of it. And always remember the most important thing about any sound is when it occurs in the song and what notes are being played. Who is playing it doesn't hurt either, so be sure to interject your own thing into everything you do!

'Arp & Drone' 2-Voice Melodic Eurorack performance (ambient, minimal, all analogue synth sounds)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"A rather gentle 2-Voice, all-analog melodic performance using random arp mode on a Keystep Pro, whilst controlling a 2-note drone sound with the keyboard. This time a slightly simpler version of this recording: [below]

The system includes three Vintage Transistor Core VCOs and noise from the Glide + Noise module, which are split between the two filters of the Gemini 2412 dual multi-mode VCF. Two of the VCO sawtooth waves go to the Wave Swarm , which thickens them, creating the effect of many stacked saws (or supersaw) buzzing as their waveform timings collide. This makes an excellent basis for drone sounds, even from a single VCO.

Other important modules here are the Tap Tempo Voltage-controlled LFO, which is clocked by the arp (gate out to clock in), and modulates/varies the frequency of the filter on each new arpeggio note, creating more movement. Also the Ring SM adds a -1 sub-octave to the single VCO of the arpeggio, and mixes in some white noise, fattening the sound hugely.

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for module 'User Guides', and 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides, detailing functions/methods, and a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself.

'Not moving on' - Mellow, Melodic Eurorack Performance (AJH Synth MiniMod & Gemini 2412)
video upload by DreamsOfWires

"Melodic real-time performance using 2 modular analogue synth voices, a work-in-progress version for this album: https://tomorrowthecure.bandcamp.com/... [posted here w/ video]

This track makes particular use of the Gemini VCF as two seperate filters - the melodic part (an arpeggio from the Keystep in random mode) consists of either the Entropic Doom (alone as a pitched noise VCO, sometimes with a regular VCO mixed into it's audio input, or used as a sync source), or just the standard VCO through the Ring SM (where additional octaves are added). The output of both the Entropic Doom and the Ring SM go to independent filters on the Gemini, Low Pass and Band Pass respectively. Then, the keyboard/sequencer gate from the Keystep triggers the Sample & Hold module, which modulates the mix between the output of these two filters using the Gemini's built-in voltage controlled mixer/cross-fader. I'm also using the CV Mix module to set the modulation level, range, and start/end positions.
The drone sound is two VCOs going through the Wave Swarm to the Ladder Filter, at certain points I manually shift the pitch of one of the VCOs using the Precision Voltages module, via the Glide module (up only). Recorded into AUM on an iPad with EOS2 reverb.
Added video footage is of the North Norfolk Railway, then the Mid Norfolk Railway, UK (before 'lockdown')."

Can this eurorack module take care off all your utility needs? - with Arkan / Malstrom

video upload by

"Utilities are often overlooked. But things like mixing, attenuating, inverting, and adding offset are what makes patches great. Today we take a closer look at Arkan from Malstrom. A module that can tackle all the basics, but adds voltage controlled polarizing to the mix. So, it can be used as a regular VCA, VC inverter and ring modulator as well. Beside that it can gain or boost signals into distortion or wave shaping. And it can do all that twice.

Timetable:
00:00 – Intro & sounds
01:18 – Overview – Input & Bias
03:41 – Overview – Modulation
06:13 – CV Patches
15:55 – Audio patches

Malstrom's Arkan is a two-channel bipolar VCA that is perfect for modifying control voltage signals and features a curvature parameter that adjusts the shape of the CV in a new way. While it excels at controlling voltage, the Arkan can be used as a unipolar VCA to control audio signals. When using the VCA at audio rates, you can dial in great sounding ring mod sounds and with channel 1 normalized to channel 2, plus the ability to chain multiple units together, rich modulation networks are easily created with minimal input. A built-in bias lets you control the offset for waveshaping and adjust how much of an additional signal gets mixed in or inverted. Grab an Arkan from Malstom and take control of your CV in creative ways.

ARKAN FEATURES

2-channel bi-polar VCA
Symmetrical signal boost up to 4x for gnarly audio and CV waveshaping
Asymmetrical bias waveshaping
Invert switch for each input
CV Input curvature lets you shape the signal and enhance the 0V attenuation
Chain multiple together with rear linking cables
Outputs are normalled
